Scheveningen is the busiest seaside resort in the Netherlands. Therefore, the municipality is exploring how technology can help to anonymously monitor and manage this crowding. The first phase of the trial was conducted in 2022. The crowd measurement did not adequately reflect the actual situation. Consequently, the municipality plans to continue the trial with a new AI system (artificial intelligence) to possibly improve accuracy.
The trial will last for a year. The data from the crowd measurements are integrated into the Crowd Safety Manager. The current and expected crowd levels assist the municipality and the police with the Coastal Action Plan.
