Introduction
This concept selection covers the considerations taken into account in the design decisions for controlling urban lighting. Urban lighting enhances social and traffic safety and is also an important element in the urban spatial quality, both in terms of design and of creating atmosphere. Urban lighting is increasingly being used to tackle criminal activities and deal with emergencies.
The national agenda for urban lighting and local policy plans specify sustainability as a determining factor. Energy savings and avoiding light pollution are primary goals.
This ‘Controlling Lighting’ design selection expresses the municipality’s vision on lighting and does not make any representations about the type of light sources or lighting plans. This concept selection outlines the preconditions for an open fitting of the lighting system in the LLS’ system architecture. It also gives the degree to which the relevant stakeholder wishes can be honoured.
The power supply concept and the lighting control must be defined in close consultation with OLC and a joint vision created. This collaboration is essential, not only in the area of technical specifications, but also for later phases in the areas of laying, asset management and maintenance, operation and experimentation.
